Tomica Hofler-BynumAs an education professional and advocate; I envision STEM being a part of education in every facet from Pre-K to 12th grade. Students from the age of 3 on up, should have exposure to STEM. I have experienced through application how STEM Education is a vital part of how students learn today. Allowing for more inquiry based learning, questioning, researching and critical thinking helps students to attempt a broader base and open-ended mindset for receiving instruction. After teaching at a STEM school, beginning back in 2006 and begin trained in the pedagogy for STEM/STEAM instructional delivery; this has guided my understanding of ways to get students to learn and get the information to "stick." STEM/STEAM also encompasses more hands-on activities and builds on children's knowledge and strengths because their learning takes on a role of discovery.
Since the beginning of my professional career as an educator, I have been passionate about the field of STEM. I continuously work to ensure that STEM education and learning becomes a habit of mind in children, as well as in the public and private education sector. I am so excited to be a part of the ASI team, because I know my passion for STEM Education is a value and shared vision! |
